Navy arrests nine for crude oil theft

The operatives of the Nigerian Navy have arrested nine persons for alleged theft of crude oil in the Niger Delta.

The Director of Information of the Nigerian Navy, Commodore Christian Ezekobe, said in a statement on Friday that the personnel of the Anti-Crude Theft of the Nigerian Navy arrested the suspects during an operation against crude oil theft and other maritime crimes between March 21, 2016 and Mach 28, 2016.

SHOCKING: Anambra villagers kill two brothers while burying their sister

It sounds incredible but it really happened. A family went to the home of their in-laws to accord their daughter a befitting burial only for them to lose two other members of their family in the most brutal manner. The ugly incident allegedly took place at Umueze-Anam in Anambra state in January 23, 2016.

Spokesman for the bereaved family, Christopher David,40, who narrated how the incident happened alleged that youths in the area unleashed terror on them and ended up killing two of his brothers, Obinna David,24, and Chuks David,17, in cold blood during the burial of their only daughter, Gloria who was married to a man from the area.

FG to replace N5,000 monthly stipend for unemployed youths —Ngige

Sen. Chris Ngige, the Minister of Labour and Employment, says the Federal Government has initiated empowerment programmes to engage unemployed youths against the proposed N5,000 monthly stipend. Ngige disclosed this at the Special Day of the National Directorate of Employment (NDE) at the ongoing 27th Enugu International Trade Fair on Friday. 

Lekki Garden residents kick against integrity test by gov

Barely two weeks after Lagos State Government ordered integrity test on other Lekki Gardens’ houses, some affected occupants of the houses have expressed  displeasure over the proposed exercise.

One of the residents, Dr. Samuel Dachi, said the integrity test proposed by the government on the occupied houses is surprising, giving the fact that you cannot carry out such an exercise on an already built and occupied houses. Dachi felt government should have carried out such test on houses built by the company, which have not been completed.

Osun won’t abandon any project – Aregbesola

Osun State Governor, Mr. Rauf Aregbesola, has assured the people of the state that he will not abandon any of the projects started by his administration despite the financial crisis facing the state.

The governor, who was represented by his deputy, Mrs. Titi Laoye-Tomori, gave this assurance while speaking on Friday at the presentation of awards of excellence to some prominent individuals in the state by the Dynamic Reformers Group, a group under the All Progressives Congress. Aregbesola urged the people of the state not to be disappointed because of the current financial challenge facing the state, saying the problem was not peculiar to Osun State but a general problem in all the states of the federation.

NNPC records N24bn loss in February

The operational loss of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation grew from N3.55bn in January 2016 to N24.23bn at the close of business in February same year, latest figures from the firm’s financial report have shown.

According to the NNPC’s seventh publication of its monthly financial and operations report, the huge deficit was due to production shut-in occasioned by vandalism of Forcados Export Line.
