Popular 'Yahoo-boy' sentenced for 7 years

A 36-year-old Nigerian, Godwin Nwaofor has been charged and convicted of duping poor American Pensioners of their hard earned benefits.

The Conman was said to  keep a list of potential "mugus" whom he sent letters to, informing them that they had won the Australian lottery, and asking them for some amount of money known as "activation fees", to facilitate the release of their "winnings".

Godwin was however not working alone, as he was in Alliance with one
Frank Onyechonam who is known as "Fizzy" because of his habit of splurging on expensive vintage champagnes.

The sum of £1million was actually gotten from the scams perpetrated by Godwin, and the money was reportedly exhausted on a flamboyant life.

Godwin who is a father of two, was in the habit of changing home addresses to escape the long hands of the law. This was discovered by a a 76-year-old victim who was informed that she won the Australian lottery worth $1.85m.

When the woman flew all the way from the US to the UK as she tried to track Godwin down after being informed by the FBI that she had fallen victim to a scam, she discovered that he had moved to another location.

During the hearing of his case, following arrest it was found that Godwin moved to the UK in January 2006 and got married to a German citizen who bore two children for him aged 6 years and 6 months respectively.

The Conman was subsequently sentenced to a prison term of seven years, after which he broke down in tears and began apologizing.

He was found guilty of conspiracy to defraud, converting criminal property, and. acquisition of criminal property.

Half of his sentence will be served in prison and the other half will be done on license.
