Dozens of women then
streamed out of the women's area of the mosque after hearing her cries.
Alerted by their
shouts, hundreds of men, who were in a separate area of the mosque, joined in
the rush to escape - leading eyewitnesses to believe there may have been a
bomb.
At least 81 people were
injured, most of them women.
It is thought the
stampede was triggered when a woman shrieked after a mouse ran over her foot.
According
to Morocco World News , at least 34 people fainted in the
rush.
According to
authorities: "Some 81 people, most of them women, sustained light injuries
and fractures when some of them fainted."
Among the most badly hurt was a pregnant woman who suffered
two fractured legs and is still in intensive care in hospital.
