The Civil Rights
Realisation and Advancement Network (CRAN) has dragged the Federal Government
to court, seeking immediate relocation of the 47 suspected Boko Haram members
allegedly transferred to Anambra State recently. The group in
a suit filed at the Federal High Court, Awka is seeking a declaration of court
that the continued detention of the “unconvicted 47 Boko Haram members at the
Ezinifite/Ekwulobia Prisons, Aguata Local Council of Anambra State and
subsequent commencement of their trial at the expiration of the 90 days maximum
days of detention stipulated by the Terrorism (prevention) (Amendment) Act
2013, posses a grave threat to the right to life of the applicants and the
entire people of Ezinifite/Ekwulobia, in Aguata Local Council of Anambra
State.”
They further
asked for an order of the Court directing the relocation of the Boko Haram
members back to the place of commission of the offence and subsequent trial as
well as order restraining further transfer of other terror suspects to the
Ezinifite/Ekwulobia, Aguata Local Council.
In
an affidavit they deposed to, the group insisted that the respondents with
their actions are likely to infringe on the fundamental right to life of the
applicants and the people of Ezinifite/Ekwulobia, Anambra State. They added
that it was unconstitutional for the respondents to take an action that would
affect the constitutional right to life of the applicants.
